Guru Nanak is the first Guru of the Sikhs. He had a remarkable spiritual experience while he was bathing in the River Kali Bein and to the world he disappeared for three days. When he returned he recounted his experience with God. He had a message to spread and was revered as an enlightened being. He strongly believed in spiritual equality for all, seeing the Divine in all beings. His message of oneness is expressed through ੴ which is also the beginning of the mool mantar in the holy scripture Sri Guru Granth Sahib, which contains the composition of the Gurus.
